Warwick Student Cinema: Audition

Event from Warwick Student Cinema

Monday 25 November 2024, 7.30PM - Monday 25 November 2024, 9.30PM

L3

Come see Audition presented with stunning 4K laser projection on the big screen in L3!

Perhaps the quintessential J-horror film with a reputation for being one of the most unsettling and disquieting films around, with audience members often running away from the cinema in fear... it’s not a film for the faint-hearted. Surprisingly, it’s a slow-burn and the true horrors take a while to manifest although, with its premise of a man setting up a fake audition to find himself a woman, we’re already off to a really creepy start. Director Takashi Miike, and author Ryu Murakami whose novel this is based on, both have strong reputations for the dark and disturbing, and they amplify each other all the way up to one of the hardest-to-watch scenes in cinema — it’s on the poster, the one with the needle! Auditions are mortifying at the best of times, even if its just for the school play, but Miike’s film will be sure to put things into perspective, all I’ll say is hold onto your ears and tongue for dear life.
