Event Description

Warwick Student Cinema: Four Lions

Event from Warwick Student Cinema

Monday 23 June 2025, 7.30PM - Monday 23 June 2025, 9.30PM

L3

Come see Four Lions presented with stunning 4K Laser Projection on the big screen in L3!

Directed and co-written by Christopher Morris, the creator of the cult classic satirical news shows Brass Eye and The Day Today, and also co-written by Succession and The Thick of It writer, Jesse Armstrong, this satire is as tragic as it is funny. The film follows a group of incompetent jihadi terrorists plotting an attack on Britain, played by Riz Ahmed, Kayvan Novak, and Nigel Lindsay. While the premise may not seem inherently comedic, Four Lions is a brilliantly thought-provoking satire that will no doubt have you laughing throughout. But as easy as it is to get wrapped up in their nonsensical comedic conversations about rubber dinghy rapids, their singing of Dancing in the Moonlight, and their creative swearing, the film’s underlying themes remain a looming point of tragedy. Unsurprisingly, the film was largely criticized by numerous groups even before its release for tackling a topic deemed too sensitive, but this overlooked the power of satire in tackling the themes of radicalisation, terrorism and the absurdity of extremism. [Aidan White]
