Come see Billy Elliot presented with stunning 4k laser projection on the big screen in L3!
Set in the impoverished County Durham during the 80s miners’ strike, Billy Elliot is a delicate story told against a coarse background. To defy gender norms in such a rigid environment would be an inspiring story despite anything, but Billy is a young boy in a tense and angry house who still subverted expectations, and that’s where its impact is rooted. The soundtrack features some really great 70s and 80s English rock too, notably from The Clash, The Jam, and T. Rex. The ending to this film, however, is my favourite part— a touching scene which tidies off the story with a fulfilling, warm moment. [Holly Beaumont]
