Come see The Social Network presented with stunning 4k laser projection on the big screen in L3!
With the recent news that Jeremy Strong is taking over the helm of playing Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Reckoning, I think it’s only fair to showcase where it all began. The Social Network follows Harvard undergrad Mark Zuckerberg, hungry for recognition and power, as he forms the website we now know as Facebook. A few severed relationships later, he is one of the youngest billionaires and facing two lawsuits; one from his ex-friend Eduardo Saverin (Andrew Garfield) and the Winklevoss twins (both played by Armie Hammer).
This is David Fincher’s magnum opus, providing perfect execution of Aaron Sorkin’s screenplay with dialogue that is endlessly quotable and will have you hooked. The Social Network flits between its surroundings often enough so that you’re never bored. You're never in a conference room long enough for it to be tedious business jargon, but, because you know it's where the story leads, you are left on the edge of your seat to find out why. This film also delivers Jesse Eisenberg's best performance, playing the classic story of greed and hubris with the perfect amount of insecurity, jealousy and self destruction. The film is made all the better with a sprinkling of homoeroticism, Mark and Edwardo’s relationship being blunt but tender. The iconic laptop smash really is a breakup scene to end all breakup scenes, although the most true-to-life part of this film is likely Mark’s outfits. This was the first feature film soundtrack scored by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, known for the incredible Challengers soundtrack. However, this academy award winning score was truly game-changing, providing an ambient electronic sound that perfectly captures the emotions of the film (I suggest listening to “In Motion” on repeat if you want to lock in on a task). If you enjoyed watching Timothée be an arrogant loser in Marty Supreme, this film will scratch that same itch. [Eleanor Armstrong]
